Helen’s Song Lyric Sunday (SLS) theme of ‘Glass‘ this week threw me a little bit. Did anyone else have this problem, or just me?! I did a bit of research but couldn’t find anything that really jumped out at me, so I decided to go with the related theme of ‘Sand‘ (seeing that glass is made from sand, of course!). Helen does say to go with whatever song you like, it doesn’t even have to be at all related to the theme, so I guess this is fine!
To be honest I don’t know all of Suzanne Vega’s work, but I do like what I know. She was also recently touring in Australia (I didn’t manage to see her though) so I thought this song would be perfect. It suits my lazy Sunday afternoon as well. I’ve just walked my dogs, had lunch, and might even soon have an afternoon nap!
So, without further ado, today’s SLS song is Song Of Sand by Suzanne Vega from her 1992 album 99.9F°. Not an Australian artist this week, oh well!
Why not have a listen and let me know what you think? And thanks yet again to Helen for all of her great work with SLS!
Lyrics:
What song would be in the air now
What stinging tune
Could split this endless noon
And make the sky swell with rain
Could think of winning
What kind of rule
Can overthrow a fool
And leave the land with no stain.
Didn’t know much about Suzanne either other than the pop songs. This is nice… just a bit haunting and sad. And that photo of sand – WHOA! Now I want to play with sand. LOL! Nice share. 🙂

Thanks Felicia! It’s such a beautiful song, I’m glad you like it. I know right, every time I see those sand photos it blows my tiny mind apart! 😃

Suzanne Vega always seems so sad to me. But her sound makes one listen closer to the lyrics.

Yes, some of her songs are certainly sad, maybe that’s their appeal? She’s certainly a fine lyricist! Cheers! =)
